Wicked Winter Sport Trials!

This week Korimako have been putting each other through their paces and trialing for our preferred Winter Sports Teams.

Earlier in the term we were sent out a google form to choose our top 3 Weekly Winter Sport options. These included: Football, Netball, Hockey, Capture the flag, Bowls, Ki O Rahi, Gardening and Flag Football.

Those sports which had a lot of children sign up their interest needed to trial as there were limited spots available. The sports teams which trialed were: Netball, Football & Hockey. Thank you so much to the Korimako teachers for spending their lunchtimes to run these, we appreciate it so much.

The trials involved a lot of learning for the Korimako students as a lot of this was new to them. Students then did a warm up and practiced their skills before getting into a small sided games

Overall it was a fantastic experience for us all. We learnt the rules for our chosen sports, how to work together in a team, how to play fair and of course how to have fun!

What sport have you chosen for Winter? Do you play a different sport outside of school? How did you go in your trial? Let me know in the comments below :)

Lights, Camera, Action!

This week Korimako have been lucky enough to have some amazing actors from The Court Theatre come in to put us through our acting paces.

We started with a dance off to warm ourselves up. This was a great opportunity to showcase some of our epic moves. Then we moved into an animal game, this was where you and the person next to you were given an animal and had to act it out. The best animal impression won the round!

Students were then put into groups and had to create shapes with their bodies, the challenge with this is they had to do it in silence! There was everything from an electric toothbrush, rocket ship, a storm, a school bus and a shark. It was awesome to see some great facial expressions with this activity.

Finally, we finished up the lesson with a tongue twister to work on our diction. The challenge was to see how many times we could say 'Irish wrist watch' in 30 seconds. How many times can you say this tongue twister correctly?

Overall it was a great day that all the students and teachers thoroughly enjoyed. Check out some of the photos and videos below!

Rugby FunYAY!!!

On Friday 7th May 54 Marshland students travelled to Burnside Park for Canterbury Rugby Funday. We were joined by 47 other primary schools who were just as excited for a Funday out of school to learn rugby skills, teamwork and have fun.

Marshland School was proud to enter 4 teams into the tournament; Year 4, Year 5, Year 6 & a Girls Team. Each team was able to play 3 games against a different school. We stopped briefly in between each game to have a bite to eat and re-hydrate before cracking on again.

It was so good to see so many Marshland students representing the school with such a positive attitude and giving everything their best effort. We would love to have just as many students attending next year too.

Have you played tackle Rugby before? Leave a comment and tell about your team :)
